September Gardening Activities for the Cincinnati Area

September temperatures can be sweltering or cool and rainy. The cooler nights, however, usually make it a most enjoyable time to work in the garden.

The average high temperature is 79.6 degrees. The average daily low is 56.8. Cincinnati usually receives about 3 inches of rain in September.

Here are some general tips for September:

September is prime lawn-renovation and planting time in Ohio. Have you reseeded yet?

While doing your garden clean up, take notes of what worked and didn't. Mark areas that would have been better if planted differently: easier to maintain with groundcover in place of lawn, for instance, or where more color is needed or more bulbs might fit in.

Edge beds to make a clean line and define them. Don't let them get overrun just because summer is winding down. A tidy edge makes a big difference!
