April Gardening Activities for the Cincinnati Area

There is so much to do in the garden in April: Garden cleanup, pruning, seed-sowing, moving and dividing plants, fertilizing and mowing top the list. Whew! You could get tired just thinking about it all! I often remind myself to stay calm and do one thing at a time.

I keep a running list of specific "things to do", like prune the old apple tree, edge the front shrub border or fertilize the strawberry patch. Then I can choose the most important or timely thing to do each day, as time permits. It is satisfying to cross item off this long list, and to appreciate all that has been accomplished.

The average high temperature for the Cincinnati area in April is 66 degrees, with an average low of 42 degrees. We usually get about 4 inches of rainfall in April. But this year has been anything but typical, so who knows what we'll get?
